Ahh, the infamous, edgy, Masters of Fun — otherwise known as the MoFs. This is an all employee committee that was created for the purposes of delivering fun activities to our workplace. To some, fun might be an objectionable term. 😉 Nonetheless, we do have a LOT of fun.

Basically, this committee organizes and schedules team building and social events throughout the year. Here are some examples (just to name a few)…

  1. Pool Nights
  2. Snow Day
  3. Gaming LAN Parties
  4. Snow Ski/Board Day
  5. Go Carts
  6. Camping (this is great fun)
  7. Halloween Cornmaze
  8. Manicures/pedicures
  9. Bowling

…and so on

The MoFs also help organize the annual company picnic and holiday party. As an example, our last picnic included the Executive Olympics where our executives were paired into teams and competed against each other. The events were a sack race, blind-folded water balloon toss, an egg toss, and free a MoF (find a key in whipped cream with their mouth and then let the captured MoF go free).

That last event was interesting, the execs decided to band together and ended up dumping their bins of whipped cream on the MoFs. It was hilarious! Let me tell you, as one of the infamous “leaders” of the MoFs I’m truly thankful that we have an executive team willing to subject themselves to such torture all for the enjoyment and benefit of the company. This goes for our entire company. Most are always willing to “take a hit for the team”. Believe it or not, this is only a small example of the dynamic and wonderful environment here at PC-Doctor.

Our holiday party is always a big hit as the MoFs organize a huge raffle, often times raffling prizes like computer systems, iPods, digital cameras, and 60 inch TVs! We sell the raffle tickets 1 for $1. It’s by no means a money maker, we’re lucky to get half of the money back that we spend on prizes, but it’s our way of saying thank you at the end of the year.

There is an annual budget that usually falls a bit short. To make a little extra we’ll do fund raisers like bake auctions, team lead auctions, and MoF Idol. I could write a dedicated post for each one of those events. As complex as they are, they bring in great money and lots of enjoyment.

As you can see, this committee really does help shape the environment here at PC-Doctor. I attribute our excellent team dynamics partially to the MoFs and the events we plan. We’ve had great success with little to no abuse of the system. If you work for a company that needs to build the team and take some of the edge off, I challenge you to present the idea to the powers that be. It’s always worth a try and you’ll be amazed at the results.

Drop me a comment if you need help getting a MoF-type program in place at your company.

To close, as cliche as it might be, we truly “work hard and play hard”!
