iPhone 3G Issues Persist Despite Latest Firmware
Mac Rumors – While Apple seems to finally have a handle on their MobileMe difficulties, it appears iPhone 3G issues persist despite the most recent firmware updates. The two most notable issues include 3G reception problems and iPhone application crashing.

A Comprehensive List of Ultraportables, Netbooks, Mini-Notebooks, Or Whatever You Call Them
Gizmodo – When the Asus Eee came out, the market was simple. There was only one tiny, cheap laptop so you knew which one was for you. That was less than a year ago, but things move quickly in the tech world. Now it’s tough to keep up with the major brands offering mini-notebooks, let alone every no-name knockoff (where you may still find the better deals and innovation ). Luckily, Liliputing has created a comprehensive list of these machines so it’s easy to compare stats and prices. And there were a few that even we hadn’t heard about Continue reading

Intel Discusses Mobile Nehalem. Quad Core Notebooks Coming Next Month.
Mac Rumors – Laptopmag covers some of the announcements made at Intel’s Developer’s Forum. The general manager of Intel’s Mobility Group Dadi Perlmutter discussed current and future Intel mobile processor technology. These products and features should find their way into Apple laptops over time.

Sony Ericsson’s TM506: T-Mobile AWS 3G Support Included
Engadget – When Sony Ericsson’s TM506 was leaked earlier this month, there was no mention made of the flip’s support of AWS 3G. Thankfully (thankfully!), the official launch brings along confirmed support for the protocol. SE is linking up with T-Mobile USA once again, providing a stylishly small handset that sports a 2-megapixel camera, built-in A-GPS (TeleNav), stereo Bluetooth support, an M2 card slot, multimedia playback, outer / inner displays and 9.5-hours of GSM talk time (250-hours on standby). Curiously, no price is mentioned, but you can find out for yourself when this lands in stores early next month. Continue reading

OQO prototype shown with Intel’s Atom inside
Engadget – Before you get too riled up here, let us point out that this Atom-based OQO is simply a prototype. According to the company’s Dennis Moore, the device we’re seeing here “is not a product launch or announcement,” but simply a demonstration of just how amazing and utterly life-changing the OQO + Atom combo is. Really guys, if there’s so much love in the house, why not get this thing on the production line? Continue reading

Dell’s Subnotebook To Ship With Ubuntu
Slashdot – k33l0r writes “Dell’s entry into the sub-notebook market, the Inspiron 910, will ship with Ubuntu preinstalled. This was confirmed this morning when Gizmodo published (leaked) specifications for the Inspiron 910.” I hope that’s not the final form of the keyboard, though — lots of wasted space on each side.

Strange Paths to Multiple Medals
mental_floss – Ethan Trex continues his Olympic dominance with a look at athletes who earned multiple medals—medals for two countries, medals in Summer and Winter, and medals in swimming and city planning (yes, there used to be medals for skills like that.)

Visual Search Engine Tracks Stolen Images
Slashdot – Barence writes “A new visual search engine could help photographers keep track of their photographs whenever, and wherever, they appear on the internet. The TinEye search engine allows users to search by uploading a picture rather than typing in a keyword. It then conducts a pixel by pixel search across the internet, flagging up all instances of that image even if it’s been cropped, merged or digitally altered in some way.”

Secure File Storage Over Non-Trusted FTP?
Slashdot – hmckee writes “Does any software exist that enables me to store/backup/sync files from my local computer to a non-trusted FTP site? To accomplish this, I’m using a script to check timestamps, encrypt and sign the files individually, then copy each file to an offsite FTP directory. I’ve looked over many different tools (Duplicity, Amanda, Bacula, WinSCP, FileZilla) but none of them seem to do exactly what I want: (1) multi-platform (Windows and Linux),” Continue reading
