Title: SSD passes SMART but fails Random Seek

Hi

Having run a general test on a laptop using Service Center 9.5, the test showed the SSD drive passing the SMART tests but failed on the 'Random Seek' test.

I'm probably still thinking along the platter-based hard drive way of things, but would this be classed as a similar fault in a platter-based HDD? e.g. if there are no heads/armatures, would a random seek fail on an SSD still indicate replacement being needed?

Hi Chris,

As far as SSD's go, the Random Seek Test reads sectors randomly from the device for a designated number of iterations. This test can quickly cover a large area of the drive and can find errors that a test reading at regular intervals might not catch. When this test fails, how are you running the diagnostics (DOS, Bootable, Windows)?
