I decided to run a diagnostics on a laptop before I gave it back to a customer, eventhough it seems to be running fine. The DMA Channels test failed. It says Channel 0 register patterns failed/Channel 1 register patterns failed. Does anyone know if this is a potential serious problem, or is it something that can be overlooked?

Hi-Tech-PC,

This is not a very common error.  A failure indicates a particular DMA channel is not correctly reporting the pattern sent to it.
A few things to check;
Make sure it has the latest BIOS available for the unit installed.
Since this is a Presario, chances are good that there is an OEM version of PC-Doctor available for it.  Go to the HP website and download the DOS version for that model and see if the error persists.

In looking through our knowledgebase, this error has usually been fixed by a BIOS update and was most often uncovered during the development process of new systems.
