i use pc doctor at a service center. a customer brought in a laptop, but it won't boot. the fans don't turn on, no lights - nothing. the charger works fine. is there anyway to test the battery?  also, in the pc doc manual, it says running the diagnostics in DOS will allow a system that 'doesn't boot up' to still be thoroughly tested. how do i get it to that point?

stech1,

The reference in the manual about "doesn't boot up" is referring to doesn't boot into windows or any other OS.  If the Laptop will not post you can't run diagnostics.

You could test the battery with a volt meter but if the charger is good it should work without a battery.  I would check internal power connections; make sure the power plug on the notebook is working as they are a common point of failure.  Reseat any chips that have a socket as well as the ram and try again.
