Quik question, i just installed a new H.D. and i ran the h.d. test and got "Disk 1 linear Verify---- Failed" and "Disk 1 Random Verify ----- Failded". Do i have a bad HD? (ata100 160 gig, Dell Laptop).

Staples,
Are you running the Windows or DOS version?
If you are running the Windows Version, background processes can cause this to happen. Make sure all programs that can access the hard drive during tests have been terminated before starting the HD tests.

Running the DOS version.

Staples,
Then Background processes aren't a problem. Does the drive pass all the SMART tests?
If the unit passes all the SMART tests but fails linear verify check the connectors and or cable. The linear verify is timing sensitive so if there are retries it will fail.
