Ask Our Experts / Re: Help with Internal - now External - Hard Drive
« Last post by eric on May 22, 2023, 05:55:15 am »
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with an older computer dying and the need to recover data!

Generally speaking, there's a few things to consider:
  • The hard drive is setup to boot with the target system's configuration. Trying to boot with another machine is not guaranteed to work. For example, the Windows XP installation was likely targeting a 32-bit environment whereas your more modern system is more likely to be 64-bit. Other hardware can also cause similar issues trying to change systems your OS drive is booting on.
  • If your old system burned, it's possible your hard drive suffered some damage. Otherwise, assuming your drive is still usable from another machine, you should be able to plug it in and view the file system contents. One thing to keep in mind, though, is any drive encryption or other security related software could cause the drive's contents to not be immediately available.

Finally, if you're struggling to access the drive contents and aren't tech savvy, we would advise you to consult with a professional. You can use the Service Center Technician Locator (https://www.pcdservicecenter.com/locator) to try and find a local technician that can assist with data recovery.

Ask Our Experts / Help with Internal - now External - Hard Drive

My 13-year-old Windows XP laptop just died. Something burned - and smoked - after I plugged in an USB thumb-drive. I took out its internal HITACHI hard drive (see the specs in the attached photo PDF file), to place it in one of those external portable USB hard-drive cases I just purchased, and it in fit with no problems, into the mentioned case; however, when I plugged it into my Windows 10 HP Laptop, it did not recognize it. I assumed it was because the Hitachi was setup with Windows XP, and my HP Laptop is a Windows 10 machine; so, I took it and connected it to another Windows XP system I have, and it gave me a I/O Device error message.

Please, I need several files located inside this internal HITACHI hard drive.

Please, advise... and keep in mind I AM NOT computer savvy..!

Thanks;

Judy,

PC performance issues can arise for a variety of reasons. You should try to double-check the programs configured to startup with your system, always run in the background, or generally consume a lot of CPU cycles with a large memory footprint.

If you need any assistance with a PC-Doctor product, feel free to open a support ticket at https://www.pc-doctor.com/support.

If you need general PC technical support to assist in your system performance, you can use the Technician Finder at https://www.pcdservicecenter.com/locator to find a local technician.

Building or Upgrading PCs / Re: Issue in Built-in PC with 144hz gaming monitor
« Last post by eric on March 22, 2023, 08:56:04 am »
Sharon,

Assuming the monitor was previously working correctly and you are running Windows:
  • I would first start with any recent system changes you've made (Windows Update, new driver, changes to display settings, etc.) and roll things back one by one.
  • To hopefully bypass the monitor signal issue to try these things, you should try to boot into Windows Safe Mode.

If you have any questions about PC-Doctor products, feel free to submit a support ticket at https://www.pc-doctor.com/support.

If you require general computer technical support, you can use the Technician Finder at https://www.pcdservicecenter.com/locator to locate a local repair technician.

Building or Upgrading PCs / Issue in Built-in PC with 144hz gaming monitor
« Last post by sharonsmith on March 21, 2023, 02:12:13 am »
Hey everyone,

I'm facing an issue with my built-in PC and 144hz gaming monitor. Whenever I try to use the monitor, it displays a "No Signal" error message, even though the computer is running. I've tried reseating the RAM and the graphics card, but the problem persists.

Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a solution? I'm at a loss on what to do, and I really need to get this fixed for work and gaming.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing a frustrating issue with my laptop that I was hoping to get some advice on. Despite having an Intel Evo processor [https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/faqs/intel-evo/] and using high-performance software such as Premier Pro and Filmora, my laptop has been running very slow lately.

I have tried several steps to improve performance, including disabling unnecessary startup programs, running a virus scan, and clearing temporary files. However, none of these steps have made a significant difference in the speed of my laptop.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced similar issues, or has any suggestions for how to improve the performance of a laptop with an Intel Evo processor that is being used for high-performance software such as video editing. Is there a specific setting or configuration that may be causing the slowdown, or is there a hardware component that may need to be upgraded?

Any advice or insights that you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and attention.

Best regards,

Judy

A problem I'm hoping you can help me solve. My virus scan as well as other spyware scans are stalling and my computer is locking up at the following file location.......D:\MiniNT\PC- Doctor 5 for Win PE\pcdrdvdramdrive.p5x........I thought perhaps as it appears to be a pc doctor file that is part of the software bundle that came with my HP computer you could help...thank you

The HP distributed PC-Doctor products are not longer offered or supported by HP. That said, we do offer our Toolbox product for free and can be used as a much more modern replacement for the HP diagnostics previously distributed by them.
